⛑️Consumer Rescue Presents🛟

Tales from Consumer Advocacy Land

Hello friends! ❤️

I’m writing to you from our new newsletter platform, Beehiiv. I hope this reaches all of you today. There are usually a few kinks to iron out with a switch like this, but my fingers are crossed.

First, thank you to everyone who reached out last week with encouraging words about my elderly pup. Scooby is still hanging on. We have a veterinary appointment this afternoon to evaluate his health, and I appreciate all your support and kind thoughts.

I’m working through requests for help, questions, and updates as fast as I can, and I believe everything will be up to date by tomorrow afternoon. Thank you for your patience.

Now, let’s get right into the outrageous tales I have for you this week. Many of you know I answer a lot of scam calls. I do that so I can learn the latest schemes and tactics fraudsters use to extract money and personal information from their victims.

Last week, a particularly ridiculous bad guy called to notify me that I’d “won” $5.5 million from Publishers Clearing House — and said he’d soon arrive at my door. This con artist purported to be a “man of God” I could trust with my personal information.

In today’s first featured article, I tell you about the Publishers Clearing House scam. Since I recorded the call, I’ve included it in the piece. I think you’ll find it pretty hilarious… especially the ending.

😵 Then, over at The Points Guy, I have an unbelievable story about a vegetarian couple who traveled to Buenos Aires and had a light lunch at a traditional parrilla (an Argentine grill). Imagine their shock when they arrived home to find the restaurant had billed them nearly $30,000 for that meal.

That wasn’t even the worst part. The real sting came when Chase refused to deem the charge fraudulent. The couple lost their credit card dispute and five appeals — and hired an attorney in Argentina for $2,500 — before reaching out to me at The Points Guy six months after that fateful lunch.

Finally, I have updated information for Vantage Travel victims who still have credits to use. In 2026, Aurora will have a new ship, new solo cabins without single supplements, new itineraries, and a limited-time $2,500 booking discount.

This Week’s Fiascos and Fixes 🔍

Publishers Clearing House scams remain a menace to senior citizens, even after the company’s bankruptcy earlier this year. I know because a friendly, self-proclaimed “man of God” called me last week, claiming to be a representative of PCH. He said he’d soon arrive at my house to deliver my sweepstakes award of “a whopping $5.5 million.

Cruise ship passengers frequently contact Consumer Rescue after falling victim to scams during their travels. Unfortunately, by then it’s usually too late to do anything – except to tell their stories so others can avoid the same fate.

Here are the eight most common travel scams you should know before your next cruise.

Aurora Expeditions’ subsidiary Vantage Explorations just turned two years old. To celebrate this milestone, the cruise line has big news and a $2,500 booking bonus for cruisers.

Here’s what’s next for Vantage Explorations and Aurora Expeditions.

A Seattle couple was charged almost $30,000 for a meal in Buenos Aires, sparking a six-month dispute with their credit card company.

At the end of their rope, they contacted TPG. Here’s their awful story.
