Tales from Consumer Advocacy Land

Real stories. Real rescues. Real advice.

Happy Monday, friends! ❤️

Oh boy, do I have a doozy for you tonight. It’s a real head-scratcher.

A (now former) Royal Caribbean passenger asked me for help clearing up a “little misunderstanding” that landed him on the Do Not Sail list forever. After exchanging many emails with this former Diamond-level Crown and Anchor member, I'm still struggling to understand what he thinks the misunderstanding was.

Most people would assume that they would be permanently banned after filing a frivolous lawsuit against a cruise line. But this passenger isn’t most people. He says he was completely blindsided when RCCL blacklisted him for pursuing a lawsuit over his demand that the cruise line pay to wash and detail his car. Then, when that request was met with crickets, he filed formal documents to ask for arbitration. When Royal Caribbean refused to entertain his request, he filed a lawsuit — and then he got banned.

Next up: It’s Medicare Open Enrollment, and Consumer Rescue's registered Medicare counselor, Abe Wischnia, has some important information for beneficiaries. Many plans are ending in 2027 — here’s what you need to know.

Then, over at Fodor’s Travel, I explain the top travel insurance mistakes that will doom any claim. That article is part of their premium content, but the first part is not behind a paywall. But if you want to read the whole story, it costs 99 cents. Sorry!

And, as always, I have a few articles you may have missed the first time around:

Enjoy! 😉

This Week’s Fiascos and Fixes 🔍

🛳️A Florida man returned from his latest cruise to find his vehicle splotched with hardened sea salt at Port Canaveral. What he did in response earned him and his wife a lifetime ban from Royal Caribbean.

🩺If your Medicare Advantage plan is ending in 2027, it could mean different doctors, interrupted care, and unexpected bills.

Here’s how to find out if these changes will impact you.

A property manager accused a couple of trashing their condo during a domestic disturbance.

Their timestamped photos told the real story.

Making one or more of these travel insurance mistakes before, during, or after filing a claim can doom it to failure.

A day before their 14-night sailing aboard Viking Sky, Susan and Al Hoiberg arrived in Bergen, Norway. The couple intended to do a little sightseeing and turn in early so they could begin the cruise refreshed.

Unfortunately, fate had other plans for the Hoibergs.

💡 How to support Consumer Rescue’s mission

Consumer Rescue is an award-winning independent consumer journalism and advocacy site. Our team works directly with company executives to mediate consumer complaints — often after customers have exhausted every other avenue. This year, the North American Travel Journalists Association recognized Consumer Rescue with a Silver Award for the best Independent Travel Blog.

Everything we do here is free to our readers, including our direct mediation between consumers and companies.

The site runs on display ads, sponsorships, voluntary reader contributions, subscriptions, and my freelance projects.

If you have the means and desire to support our mission, you can do that here. And if you don’t or can’t, that’s completely okay. Consumer Rescue will never have paywalls or hidden content. Everything here will always be free for everyone.

Until next time 😃

Don't forget! Consumer Rescue is just a click away. One of us is always here to answer your questions.

Of course, you can always reach me at [email protected]
